  • WATCH: Rappers remember The Notorious B.I.G.

JOHANNESBURG – Killed 19 years ago on this day, The Notorious B.I.G.’s influence on hip hop can still be felt to this very day.

The Brooklyn rapper released two studio albums during his lifetime, but the impact his work has on his peers and this generation’s emerging stars has been huge.

Watch fellow Brooklyn native, Jay-Z, talk about using Biggie’s rhymes in his songs and also being handed the torch by Biggie’s former producer Sean ‘Puffy’ Combs, as well as DMX, Lil Kim, Nas and Diddy, who has hailed Biggie as the foundation of everything he has done musically.

The ending title card on the movie Notorious perfectly sums up the life of the slain rapper: “Christopher Wallace, a.k.a. The Notorious B.I.G., did not live to see the release of his second album. That album, "Life After Death," went on to sell 10 million copies worldwide. With his success, he proved that no dream is too big. The sky is the limit.”
