BROOKLYN - A larger-than-life mural in Bedford-Stuyvesant is paying tribute to the late great
Notorious B.I.G. more than 18 years after his death. The mural is being painted on the corner of Bedford Avenue and Quincy Street, where the rapper started his whole career, according to those who knew him. Before
Biggie broke into the mainstream, he performed with a group called
Old Gold Brothers, or
OGB. On Saturday, many of the original members came out to honor him and celebrate the mural, which is being painted thanks to a local arts organization.
OGB members say they want to remember Biggie's influence in music and remind locals about the importance of the neighborhood. The rapper, whose real name was
Christopher Wallace, was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles in 1997. He was 24.
