Nineteen years have passed since the fatal loss of one of Hip-Hop’s legends, Notorious B.I.G. The Brooklynite — born Christopher Wallace — was shot multiple times in Los Angeles, Calif., in 1997, but since that shocking time, authorities have yet to solve the case.

Now, Faith Evans, who was married to the celebrated MC, spoke with HuffPost Live on plans of the case reopening. “All we can do is hope that that happens,” she said. “But we’re just happy that we’re here to preserve his legacy and [make sure] his kids are happy and they’re living great lives.”

The award-winning singer also spoke on the LAPD’s reported involvement in B.I.G.’s death. “We know he was murdered, but we believe that the LAPD knows who’s responsible,” she said. “That’s what we believe.”

In a prior interview with the Los Angeles Times, the “Again” singer said the Bad Boy label, which B.I.G. was signed to at the time, isn’t to blame in part for his death. “The only way you can look at it is tragic. Tragic and senseless,” she said. “But I don’t think that situation was the result of being in the music business. It’s a little deeper than that. I think all the things that came with it definitely added to the hype of things. The whole media element, and people being able to say what they think and not be accurate.”

Toward the end of the HuffPost interview, Evans placed her focus on B.I.G.’s children and the impact his legacy stamped on their lives. “They realize the importance that he played in his short time, not only on this earth, but even shorter time in the music industry,” she said. “He, obviously not knowing, he definitely built something for them.”
