Drake Ties The Notorious BIG’s Billboard Record For Most No. 1 Debuts

Hop Songs chart and Drizzy joined the late great Notorious B.I.G. and Rihanna as the only artists in the history of the chart to have more than one song enter at No. 1 in its first week. Drake’s “Summer Sixteen” replaced “Work,” his collaboration with Rihanna, at the top.

In the mid ’90s, The Notorious B.I.G. had two tracks hit No. 1. On June 24, 1995, “One More Chance” took the crown and on May 3, 1997, “Hypnotize,” the landmark single from his posthumous Life After Death album, did the same.

Since the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart was started in Oct. 1958, only 13 songs have debuted at No.1. Now that Drake has led the chart twice, he, The Notorious B.I.G. and Rihanna account for just about half of those songs. Based on his current pace and trajectory, it’s completely within the realm of possibility that Drake will hold the record himself by the end of 2016.
