  • Kenyas hardcore hip-hop rappers inspired by Notorious B.I.G. and M.O.P.

Kenya’s hardcore hip-hop rappers Kenyanna concedes that their music genre is partly inspired by American rappers M.O.P., Notorious B.I.G and Nas.

Kenya’s hardcore hip-hop rappers Kenyanna have seen it all and sing what they live. Their music is poetic sentimental and even ironic. Their sole mission is to catch the attention of local radio stations. Kenyanna emerged in 1992, when the trio who were based in Kisumu met and formed the group.

Kenyanna concedes that their music genre is partly inspired by American rappers M.O.P., Notorious B.I.G and Nas. "They know what music longevity is all about," say the trio. They say they don’t have a particular style for doing a their song.

"We do what we feel like. What we wake up with is what we do. If we wake up happy, we write happy songs; if we wake up sad, we write sad songs. It all depends on our moods," says Pitassenmilpolo.

    So then why hardcore hip-hop?

The rappers say that it represents their image, which is bold and daring. No one can argue about that,"says Jalupo. "We are greatful to God because we are able to eat breakfast, lunch and supper, which we know some people don’t have," says Obila.
