On September 11th, New York City was devastated by a terrorist attack that left nearly three thousand people dead and over six thousand injured. Not only that, it left Americans feeling vulnerable, grief-stricken, and afraid, at least in the initial stages. Eventually, many banded together to find strength in unity, and the impact of 9/11 continues to be felt with every passing year. Today, Diddy took a moment to pay homage to both the victims of the tragedy and his fallen friend, The Notorious B.I.G.

As much a New York icon as the Towers behind him, Biggie exuded greatness as the King of NY both before and after his untimely murder. It's no wonder Diddy chose this particular picture to pay homage, sharing an iconic image of Biggie standing in front of the Twin Towers. It's a loaded image, one packed with power and bittersweet reminders of the lost ones. Yet it's also a testament to the staying power of iconography, with both Biggie and the Towers themselves evoking imagery of The Big Apple and those who call it home. ...

When you're from Brooklyn, you rep it to the fullest. That's exactly what Casnova does with his latest single, "So Brooklyn," where he also calls on fellow BK luminary, Fabolous, for a wavy assist. The Roc Nation duo return on Tuesday (Sept. 10) with some Brooklyn firepower to help carry the torch for their home borough in the gritty "So Brooklyn" video.

After hearing the all-too-familiar rumbling of the subways and a howling Brooklyn chant, Casanova kicks off the visual in the streets with an aggressive verse, which finds him calling out his opps, and giving a salute to Jay-Z. Fab then steps in to spit his clever rhymes by utilizing the scenic backdrop of the Brooklyn Bridge, before moving in front of a painted Biggie Smalls mural for a proper salute to one of BK's finest. ...

A New York Federal judge ruled that the estate of the Notorious B.I.G. and subsequently Rita Ora were well within their rights to use “party and bullshit” in their songs. Judge Robert Katzmann issued a ruling Sept. 4 that agreed with the lower court decision that the words' use did not constitute copyright infringement.

The case brought by Adiodun Oyewole had been working its way through the legal system for several years and attorneys representing B.I.G’s estate were thrilled with the judge’s decision.

“It aligns with most people’s understandings of how the law should work,” said Los Angeles-based partner Staci Jennifer Riordan, who leads Nixon Peabody’s legal team on behalf of B.I.G.’s estate and Ora. “No one should be able to own a phrase, especially if I am not using the phrase or words in the same way. You shouldn’t be prevented from saying ‘party and bullshit’ and phrases like it." ...

It’s safe to say music producer Stevie J. is clearly over social media bringing up the late Notorious B.I.G. when it comes to his marriage with singer Faith Evans.

Although Stevie and Evans, the ex-wife of “Biggie Smalls,” seemed to be happily married, it doesn’t stop trolls from spewing negativity about their relationship. The “Hit It Again” producer took to Instagram on Tuesday ...

Brooklyn’s finest, The Notorious B.I.G., is no stranger to being immortalized in vinyl as a Funko Pop! figure, and early next year he’ll be captured in that form once again. Two new Biggie Smalls Pops have been announced: one sports a fedora, a pair of Wallabees and plenty of ice, and the other, which is a Hot Topic exclusive, wears a beret and Timbs. Fedora-wearing biggie is available for preorder now and scheduled to start shipping in February of 2020. No word yet on a preorders or a date for his beret-wearing counterpart. ...

Nike, the NBA, the Brooklyn Nets, and New Era have not stopped adorning jerseys, hats, skateboards, keychains, pins, and sandals with Coogi’s legally-protected pattern since it filed suit against them in February, the sweater-maker argues. Instead, in addition to disclaiming liability in the motion to dismiss that they filed in July, the sports titans have argued that actually, Coogi is the one in the wrong for using the late Notorious B.I.G.’s likeness to boost its brand.

In a new filing this week, Coogi has asked the court to refrain from tossing out the case in its entirety, as despite the defendants’ assertions that its complaint “is replete with dubious theories that in some way seek to articulate a cognizable claim against the Brooklyn Nets’-branded products,” it has adequately pleaded its claims, and thus, the case should move towards a jury trial. This includes, according to Coogi, its claim that its sweater designs are protected by trade dress and that the defendants infringed those rights by putting their “Brooklyn Camo” print all over various products, as well as NBA jerseys. ...
