There’s no doubt that the Versace Biggie is one of the most iconic sunglasses models to be released. Its bold yet timeless aesthetic not only defined the ‘90s but has also transcended eras, continuing to influence style communities. Musicians have historically been known to set trends, and when it comes to plugging exclusive pieces, hip-hop has, and still is, lauded for its global impact on style. As the genre entered the mainstream in the latter half of the last century, artists also brought bold luxury pieces to the forefront. One of those early pioneers was the late Notorious B.I.G. At the height of his career, patterned shirts, three-piece suits, and colorful sweaters became some of his signature looks — and among these was his affinity for gold-accented Versace sunglasses.

Named after the artist to celebrate his legacy, the Versace Biggie embodies the blend of street style and high fashion as well as reflects hip-hop’s immense cultural influence. While the new offering arrives in a range of colored, narrow and full-injected acetate frames, it boasts the hallmark cat-eye shape that stays true to the original style from the 1990s as well as the House’s emblem, the iconic Medusa detailing, adorning the temples.

From Notorious B.I.G. to the extraordinary talent of today, the Biggie community are rebels, groundbreakers, and champions of the true Versace spirit,” Donatella Versace says of its ethos. Recruiting a range of tastemakers and culture shakers who embrace the model’s charismatic message, over the years, the Biggie has become a symbol of individuality and self-expression that offers a sense of belonging to the Versace community. Continuing to spotlight the groundbreakers in a range of fields, this season, the House enlists Grammy-nominated artist Sabrina Carpenter and NBA star Alexandre Sarr to represent the next generation of the Biggie community.

Speaking on the collection and her appointment, Carpenter says, “I love wearing Biggie sunglasses, they are my go-to accessory for any occasion. They represent so much more than just sunglasses and I am so excited to be a part of this community.” While Sarr’s familiarity with the model makes this a full-circle moment for the athlete, “I’ve seen Biggie sunglasses worn by everyone — my NBA teammates, friends I’ve made across the globe, business guys and kids playing basketball in the yard. Biggies are for anyone who wants to give and take a bit more from life.” In a series of portraits taken by photographer Rosie Marks — whose renowned visual style connects with a contemporary audience — the latest campaign captures the talent in the new Biggie styles, sharing an intimate look into their everyday dreams and individuality as well as the bold attitude felt when wearing the iconic model. Explore the latest campaign with Sabrina Carpenter and Alexandre Sarr above. Stay tuned for Hypebeast’s exclusive interview with the NBA player releasing soon.

The new Biggie sunglasses collection is available to purchase from the brand’s website and stores now.
